Our Story
It all started in 1914 when a handful of dedicated souls – just 21 people – met for worship in the Sanborn area. They were made up of both families who had lived here for years and families who had just crossed an ocean to make a home in Sanborn. They had names like Bomgaars and DeGraaf; they worked as general store owners, farmers, and teachers. They met weekly for study and worship and prayer. And though the church has been added on to, the parsonage has moved, and the last names have changed, community is still at the heart of everything we do here at First Church.
At First Reformed Church we are deeply rooted in the Reformed Faith, which reaches down into Scripture and up to the Glory and Grace of God . As a Church body, we understand intimately that the world is not the way God intended it to be, but God is reclaiming a kingdom that heals, restores, and renews (Revelation 20).
To further God’s mission here and around the Globe, we are a part of a larger Church body: The Alliance of Reformed Churches. More details about the Alliance and its beliefs can be found at: Alliance of Reformed Churches (arc21.org)
